My household Kollektiv relocated its 1971 Bristol Caravel 22 sailboat from Seattle to Bainbridge Island on Wednesday, September 16. We are bored with the area lakes and eager to see more salt water and, indeed, the wide world. This was the first time we had ventured all the way across Puget Sound. The illustrations were provided by various Android applications including my phone camera.

Route overview (GPSPrune). Our plan had us leaving our old moorage on Lake Union before noon and arriving in Winslow early enough before 5 p.m. so that we could check in to the new place. We succeeded in this despite difficulty at one point with the motor.

The Ballard Locks (JOSM). This complexity and delay of this operation is one of the reasons we wanted to be on the other side of it. It did not help that our cranky motor refused to start when we were supposed to move out of the flooded western side of the small lock.

Restarting the motor (OSMTracker). The lock attendent dragged us out of the way with lines and boat hooks while we bobbed helplessly. The detail below shows me scurrying around the boat (phone in pocket) while I attempted to resurrect the motor, which did happen in the end.
